Description

Onsite position in Salt Lake City. Start time and shift flexibility may be available and requires rotating weekends about once a month. Experience preferred in one or more of the following: G-banded analysis (karyotyping), FISH analysis (Fluorescence in situ hybridization), wetlab (constitutional, prenatal, oncology, FISH).

Provides services of both a technical and non-technical nature in the laboratory service areas. Performs routine and complex laboratory tests in the Cytogenetics department of the clinical laboratory to provide physicians with rapid and accurate laboratory test results.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, genetics or genetics-related field or clinical laboratory science or medical technology and Current CG(ASCP) certification

-OR-

If certified by NCA prior to October 23, 2009 and grandfathered into ASCP certification:(Not Acceptable for state of California testing)

  • Associates degree and Current CG(ASCP) certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years clinical laboratory science or equivalent

Physical and other requirements:

  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Communicate: Frequently communicate with others.
  • PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
  • ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
  • Authorized to Work: Must be a citizen of the United States or authorized to work in the United States.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. 
  • Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Continuing Education: Continual assessment of current literature and best practices.
