Works under direct supervision to learn the proper handling of all specimens received at ARUP's central facility and prepares specimens for laboratory testing. The position includes such functions as matching patient information, data entry, aliquoting, and scanning documents.


Education/Credentials required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience/skills required:

  • Must be able to type 30 WPM
  • After 6 months in the department: processing at or above 25 specimens or tests per hour (using the department’s productivity report); not exceed the departmental threshold for errors or attendance infraction issues; and successfully pass (90%) the Specimen Processing departmental competency testing.

Physical and other requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for extensive periods of time
  • Fine motor coordination
  • Good visual acuity including color perception
  • Mobility
  • Absolute integrity in the accurate processing and handling of specimens and dealings with other ARUP employees
