Employee is expected to be flexible: work variable shifts, holidays and weekends, and be scheduled at various locations (Sandy Donor Center, Research Park Donor Center, and blood drives).

This position functions in a role that is a mix between a Med Tech & an RN. They do not work in a lab but rather in donor centers for the medical history screening and physical examination of our potential donors and collection of blood or platelet pheresis from qualified donors. There is no testing, or treatment, or administration of medication. This role is great for people wanting to change from the lab environment into more direct interaction with donors.

Medical Technologist

Education/Credentials required

  • Education Required: B.S./B.A. degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology or in the chemical or biological sciences
  • Certifications Required: MLS(ASCP) or MT(ASCP)

-OR-

Registered Nurse

Education/Credentials required

  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Active registered nurse certification from NCLEX
  • Active Utah nursing license, or must have active nursing license in the state where the nurse currently resides
  • Must obtain Utah Nursing license through the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing within 30 days from hire date

Physical and Other Requirements:

  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Communicate: Frequently communicate with others.
  • PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company/departmental policies.
  • ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
  • Authorized to Work: Must be a citizen of the United States or authorized to work in the United States.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. 
  • Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • English: Ability to speak, read, and comprehend the English language.
  • Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.
  • Color Vision: Perception of and ability to distinguish colors.
  • Continuing Education: Continual assessment of current literature and best practices.
