Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills; must act in a courteous and professional manner when working with peers and clients; demonstrates strong attention to detail and willing to work extra shifts when available.

Provide services of both a technical and non-technical nature in the laboratory service areas. Works under the direction of a Medical Technologist (MT), Technologist II, MLT II and/or MLT Sr. Duties include (where applicable under specific state and federal regulations) preparation of specimens for processing in the laboratory; performance of selected waived and moderate complex analytical process; performance and documentation of quality control and selected equipment maintenance; data handling and input.   

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree from a CAHEA accredited MLT program or completion of a CAHEA accredited MLT certificate program
  • Appropriate certification from one of the nationally recognized certification agencies, i.e. ASCP or NCA
  • For MLT eligible military personnel, successful completion of an official U.S. military medical laboratory training course of at least 50 weeks and the military enlisted specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist is required. Must also have an associate’s degree to include at least 60 semester hours of academic credit, including six semester hours of chemistry and six semester hours of biology

Physical and other requirements:

  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Communicate: Frequently communicate with others.
  • PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
  • ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
  • Authorized to Work: Must be a citizen of the United States or authorized to work in the United States.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. 
  • Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • English: Ability to speak, read, and comprehend the English language.
  • Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.
  • Color Vision: Perception of and ability to distinguish colors.
  • Continuing Education: Continual assessment of current literature and best practices.
