The ARUP Scientific Resource for Research and Education (www.arup.utah.edu) provides video lectures and case reports for laboratory professionals free of charge. Topics reflect current issues and developments in the field of pathology and laboratory medicine. Continuing education credits (CME/SAM, PACE) are provided for content completion.

Provides services of both a technical and non-technical nature in the laboratory service areas. Performs routine and complex laboratory tests in an assigned department of the clinical laboratory to provide physicians with rapid and accurate laboratory test results. Duties include preparation of specimens for processing in the laboratory; performance of waived, moderate, and highly complex analytical process; establishing performing and documenting quality assurance, quality control, and equipment maintenance; recognizing problems and identifying causes; developing alternatives and determining solutions; confirming and verifying results through an in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments; correlating and interpreting data based on knowledge of factors affecting test results; data handling and input.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical or Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or in the chemical or biological sciences
  • Current MLS(ASCP) or MT(ASCP) OR categorical certification in the applicable discipline (e.g., C(ASCP), M(ASCP), MB(ASCP))

Note (for Medical Technologist only): Applications will be accepted from candidates who are scheduled to graduate at the end of the current academic term, and if hired will have 6 months from graduation to obtain certification.  Other restrictions may apply

Physical and Other Requirements:

  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Communicate: Frequently communicate with others.
  • PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
  • ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
  • Authorized to Work: Must be a citizen of the United States or authorized to work in the United States.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. 
  • Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • English: Ability to speak, read, and comprehend the English language.
  • Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.
  • Color Vision: Perception of and ability to distinguish colors.
  • Continuing Education: Continual assessment of current literature and best practices.
